SCIENCE TECHNOLOGY ENGINEERING & MATHS (STEM) WEEK

We had an absolutely brilliant STEM Week with children taking part in a range of fantastic workshops and trips. Children absolutely loved the bubble engineering and fantastic plastic! They were also fascinated by Life through a Lens and RSPB interactive sessions. The Maths Outreach workshops really captivated the children’s interest through a variety of problem solving challenges. Thanks to our parents who really helped us make this week such a success and to Mrs Sorensen for organising it.

STEM subjects are really cool!

First Minister visits Prestonfield Primary School

We were delighted to show the First Minister some of the ways in which we foster a love of reading, build confidence and improve literacy skills when she visited the School on 1st March 2017.

Ms Sturgeon was able to speak with the children about participating in the First Minister’s Reading Challenge (P4-P7), the Buddy Reading we do (where P1 and P2 children are paired with P6 and P7 children) and the Paired Reading Programme (P4-P7) we have with our business partners CMS, People’s Postcode Lottery and Scottish Widows.

The children were also able to show Ms Sturgeon the wonderful book reviews they had written on their favourite books to celebrate World Book Day.  Ms Sturgeon was extremely impressed by the children and the work that the school is doing to instil that love of reading and raise standards in literacy.

Learning Together Morning on Equalities 24th March 2017

Learning Together Morning on Equalities 24th March 2017

At Prestonfield we work very hard to make sure that all our children, families and members of our community are treated with kindness and respect.  Our equalities and rights respecting work is at the heart of everything we do and we are proud of our rich diversity which we celebrate in so many different ways.  As you may know, we have adopted tackling inequalities as our global goal for February.

So it was great to see so many of our families join us for our Learning Together Morning on Equalities, giving the children an opportunity to share their work and challenge each other’s thinking.

Snowdrop Walk Sunday 26 February 2017

Early Spring is a great time to explore the  many snowdrops in the 14 acre Newington Cemetery, and also discover the other spring flowers that flourish here. We invite all those who live nearby to come and see for themselves. Volunteers will be at the gates of the cemetery on 26 February
between 1.00 pm and 3.30 pm to help you find the best places and enjoy the peace and beauty of this “garden cemetery”.
